SIMPLE FUTURE

We be able to use simple future when we want to speak or tell about work that will be done in future.

Note :

a. We use will / shall when we decide to do something at the time of speaking. The use of shall with I or we to express future time in possible but uncommon in American English. Shall is used much more frequently in british than in American English.

b. Except will / shall we able to use “be going to” in expressing future time. In speech, going to is often pronounced “gonna”.

WILL VERSUS BE GOING TO

To express a PREDICTION: use either will or be going to

When the speaker is making prediction about something she / he thinks will be true or will accur in the future, either will or be going to is possible.

Ex :

a. According to the weather report, it will be cloudy tomorrow.

b. Accrording to the weather report, it is going to be cloudy tomorrow.

NB : There is no different in meaning between (a) and (b).

To express a PRIOR PLAN : use only be going to.

When the speaker is expressing a prior plan (something the speaker intends to do in the future because in the past she / he made a plan or decision to do it), only be going to is used.

Ex :

a. Why did you buy this paint?

b. I am going to paint my bad room tomorrow.

NB : Speaker (b) has made prior plan, last week she decided, to paint her badroom, she intends to paint it tomorrow.

To express WILLINGNESS : use only will

When the speaker is not making a prediction in doing some thing and she / he make plan when speaking so you be able to use only will to express this situation.

Example :

a. The phone’s ringing

b. I’ll get it

NB : - speaker (b) is saying “I am willing’s I am happy to get the phone. “He is not making a prediction. He has made no prior plan to answer the phone and uses will to show his willingness.

-Be going to is not appropriate in this situation.
